The state-of-the-art platform provides a 163-degree ultra-wide field image of the retina. This provides an enhanced view of the retinal structure and the vessels with unparalleled clarity. It is a great tool to screen the retina of all diabetic patients and detect diabetic retinopathy in early stages, allowing for better treatment of patients and prevent irreversible blindness due to diabetes.
Apart from diabetic retinopathy, it will immensely help in early and accurate detection of age related macular degeneration, Eales disease and even some childhood retinal problems like retinopathy of prematurity and hereditary retinal conditions, Dr Mirchia added.
The latest version of the Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCT-A) is also a high performance and non-invasive machine which will particularly help in age related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy patients who need frequent monthly follow ups and injections. These conditions can now be precisely followed simply by non-invasive scanning of the eye.
Dr Michia shared that with better survival rates among very immaturely bo babies and enhanced life expectancy even among diabetics the issues of retinal conditions are on the increase and these require early and deep diagnosis for better treatment outcomes.
