I was excited to receive an invite to the formal inauguration of Korea Fair In India 2022 by the Korean Ambassador Chang Jae-bok at the busy Nexus Elante Mall on Thursday evening, with a cultural programme and a taekwondo demonstration to boot. This was to be my first opportunity to feast my eyes on Korean consumer products, other than automobiles and electronics, in an exhibition. On reaching the main atrium of the mall, the venue of the exhibition, however, my enthusiasm turned into disappointment.
The micro exhibition, if you will, barely gave a window to the wide range of high quality consumer products one would expect from a highly scientifically and technologically advanced country. Less than a dozen mini stalls is all there is to the exhibition, displaying a limited range of products – from cosmetics to beauty products, artificial jewellery and dressing accessories, snacks and other food items, Korean teas and water purifiers.

The cultural programme, preceding the formal inauguration and involving traditional Korean drum and other musical instruments, and a dance performance, along with a demonstration of taekwondo skills by a troupe of Indian and Korean performers, was entertaining for the curious crowd of visitors to the mall who thronged the atrium and the floor balconies to watch.
The 4-day exhibition (Nov 24-27) is being hosted by Nexus Elante Mall in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea and Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (Kotra).
