Canada's Defence Minister Harjit Singh Sajjan is on a seven-day visit to India; He was in Chandigarh on Friday
Regardless of the official snub meted out to him by the ruling Punjab government, Canada’s Defence Minister of Indian origin, Harjit Singh Sajjan has been warmly greeted by the people of the state wherever he has gone. After visiting his family home in village Bombelli in Hoshiarpur yesterday, Sajjan made it to Chandigarh this morning. The visit was a guarded one and no interactions scheduled.
The visiting Canadian minister inaugurated the new office of Consulate General of Canada housed in Elante office complex early during the day amid tight security arrangements. The new Canadian Consulate office will offer wide range of services like assistance to Canadians, helping companies to do business with Canada, visa services etc.
The visiting dignitary is on a seven-day visit to India and called his trip to Punjab as a “personal visit”. Apart from visiting his ancestral home yesterday, he also paid obeisance at the Golden Temple in Amritsar and met up with underprivileged children of the All India Pingalwara Charitable Society.
During his brief visit in Chandigarh, Sajjan also took out time to meet with Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal.
