What do you make of this – a crime happening in your backyard and an outside agency gets wind of it and does a decoy act to unearth it. This is exactly what happened when a team of the Haryana Health Department from Panchkula went all the way to Fatehgarh Sahib in Punjab to unearth an alleged illegal sex determination tests racket being run from a private hospital there.

Giving details of the raid conducted in Punjab, Panchkula Deputy Commissioner Gauri Prashar Joshi said in a media release that acting on a tip-off, a team deputed by the Panchkula District Administration sent a decoy customer to Mahesh Hospital in Fatehgarh Sahib after establishing coordination with Deputy Commissioner and Chief Medical Officer of Fatehgarh Sahib district.

The team then carried out a raid after the hospital staff conducted the illegal sex determination test and caught the accused red-handed in the act with the amount paid by the decoy customer for the test. Cash amounting to Rs 10,000 and Rs 7,000 was recovered from the doctor and tout, respectively. During the raid, it also came to light that the clinic was not registered.
Gauri Prashar said on the complaint of the team, an FIR was being registered against the doctor, a helper and two touts. Further investigation was underway, she added.
