Pageant Mentor Set To Open Chandigarh’s First Grooming Academy

0

Beauty pageants are no longer about beauty/handsomeness, body stats and height alone. Communication and intelligence, as well as outer and inner grooming are equally important for aspiring young girls and boys to make a mark in the glamorous world of beauty pageants and modelling.

These are the views expressed by former top 10 finalist of Pantaloon Femina Miss India 2011 pageant, noted model and grooming expert Aprajita Sharma, who is set to launch a truly professional grooming academy by the name Be You By Aprajita in Chandigarh tricity later in the year.

Photos By: Life In Chandigarh & Aprajita Sharma’s Social Media Accounts

Interacting exclusively with your own news website LifeInChandigarh.com, Chandigarh’s very own Aprajita, who has been organising online and offline grooming workshops and 4-5 day boot camps in association with luxury hotels since the pandemic, said Be You By Aprajita would be a first of its kind truly professional grooming school in the region, which will scout for talent both among males and females, unmarried and married, and groom them for the road ahead through a multi-disciplinary approach.

In the run-up to the launch of the academy, Aprajita, who has worked as a model with some of the top designers/labels like JJ Valaya, Vikram Phadnis, Gaurav Gupta, Varun Bahl, Satya Paul, Masaba Gupta, Anju Modi, Samant Chauhan, Shantanu & Nikhil, Tarun Tahiliani, Falguni Shane Peacock India and many more, would, in the coming months, announce a Miss Tricity and Mrs Tricity pageant to scout for talent, which will then be enrolled in the academy for multi-disciplinary training and grooming.

Male aspirants will be enrolled in the academy subsequently.

“I have felt that there is a dire need for such an academy in the Chandigarh tricity because not every aspiring male or female can avail of such professional training and grooming schools in the metro cities. There are huge additional costs involved and then there are also lingering concerns of safety and security, especially among females. Also, not many parents are comfortable with the idea of letting their girls venture out to far from home for training, because of concerns of being exploited,” she shared.

Commenting on the continuing hesitancy on the part of parents to let their girls venture into this glamorous world in the first instance, Aprajita, who was accompanied in the media interaction by her mother, said “Families need to support their children to live their dreams. See, there are pitfalls in any profession. There are all kinds of people at every workplace.  Parents ought to be open-minded in their approach and believe in their children that they will be able to handle the circumstances as they come.”

Talking about pressures of first, females finding their feet in the glamour world, and then to handle whatever fame comes with success, Aprajita was of the view that it depends on what kind of people are around you. Whatever the circumstances, one must always ensure that there are people around you, friends and family, who are in a position to check you in every seemingly lucrative move which has the potential of landing you in trouble. Even after tasting success, one needs to maintain humility and stay grounded. Here again, this circle around you has a role to play, she added.

Gesturing to her mother sitting nearby, she said “my mom is my biggest support. She’s there for me always, but she is also my biggest critic. That’s the kind of support you need so as not to lose your head and to sustain your existence in this glamorous field.”

Returning to the importance of grooming for success in beauty pageants and catwalks, as also acting and generally in the corporate world, Aprajita opined that grooming is all about enabling a person to give full expression to his or her potential.

Giving the example of Harnaz Kaur Sandhu, crowned Miss Universe 2021 in the pageant held in Israel, she said it was not that she tasted success immediately. She floundered in a pageant in which I was one of the judges, not because of lack of potential, but because she could not fulfil her potential. Grooming helps you do that, she emphasised.

So, what does it take to succeed in the world of pageants?

Aprajita listed out some of the key factors which play an important role in a success story – overall personality and fitness, passion, motivation and consistent dedication, confidence, good communication skills and ability to express oneself. All these aspects are taken care of in professional grooming sessions, apart from the finer nuances like voice modulation, walk style, dress sense, etiquette, etc., she explained.

Elaborating on the process of grooming, she said there are several subject experts involved apart from the one pageant mentor for the overall personality development of an individual. Depending on requirements of individuals, the team may include fitness experts, motivational experts, communication experts, actors, directors, and many more.

According to Aprajita, the overall idea of starting a much needed truly professional grooming academy in Chandigarh tricity is that the potential of the talent, available in abundance in these parts, should not go unrealised for lack of grooming, exposure and work.

Sharing her experiences thus far in the several workshops and boot camps she has held, Aprajita said the biggest challenge is of getting aspirants to first unlearn whatever misconceptions or myths they might have, and then start to learn the professional nuances of the field afresh. “The problem starts when these aspirants come with a ‘know all, done it all’ attitude and are extremely resistant to being tutored.”

Aprajita claimed that in opening this grooming academy, her main motivation is not to make money. “Having been through the journey myself all of these 12 years since finishing among the top 10 finalists in the Miss India pageant, I now want to share my experience and expertise with other talented persons in this region and help them shine in this creative as well as individualistic field.”

Apart from finishing among the top ten finalists in the Pantaloon Femina Miss India 2011 pageant, Aprajita Sharma was among the runners up in the Asian Super Model 2015 pageant held in China, where she also bagged the Miss Congeniality Award. She has also won the titles of Miss Beautiful Hair, Miss Vivacious Beauty, Miss Stylish Diva & Miss Beautiful Body in various other pageants.

Management Principles Seen Though Cookery Prism

0

Trust celebrity chef and entrepreneur Harpal Sokhi to do a thing differently, he will surprise you every single time. So, right from his signature ‘namak shamak, namak shamak, daall dete hain, namak shamak’ catch line on television cookery shows, and his striking double coloured turban, to acting in a Bollywood movie, to participating in a reality television show, the multi-talented chef has a way with audiences worldwide.

Now he has shocked us again, penning a unique book “to spice up” leadership and management principles through the prism of cookery. His latest book The Biryani Leader, launched in Chandigarh on Monday, seeks to strike an unconventional connection between arguably India’s favourite dish biryani, the complex rice dish renowned for its rich flavour and distinct aroma, and management, which only Chef Harpal can.

This engaging and insightful book, published by StoryMirror, is a must-read for aspiring leaders, seasoned professionals, and anyone seeking to enhance his management skills. It is available at leading bookstores and online retailers.

“The title of the book, The Biryani Leader, captures the essence of my experiences – my journey of learning, exploring, making mistakes, bouncing back from them and eventually growing. Management may appear to be very complicated, and your goal may appear to be unachievable, but let me tell one thing: It’s not as hard as you think!” the bubbly chef shared with your own news website LifeInChandigarh.com during a one-on-one interaction on the sidelines of the launch.

In a preface to the book, he says “In my journey to becoming a chef, I was taught about the different aspects of cooking. Whether it was the ingredients, the recipes, running the kitchen or serving the authentic flavours, I did it all. But what struck me the most was the management side of things. Somehow, my brain started to automatically link every minute detail of cooking to management.

“Everyone loves biryani, and that is why I believe it is the perfect way to know and understand management. As a chef, I can relate anything to food and come up with a reference for you. But in this book, I chose biryani because I believe that nothing is as complex as human beings as a perfectly layered biryani. A successful and smooth-running establishment with multiple divisions resembles a multi-layered biryani”, he adds.

Elaborating further, he shares, “Biryani is complex, and so is management. Through the art of biryani-making, we can learn about team management. Just as every ingredient plays a crucial role in biryani, every member of an organisation has a part to play in making things work. Everyone has his own set of responsibilities. One slip from any team member can cause everything to fall apart. That’s how vulnerable a perfect biryani can be”.

In his foreword to the book, Subroto Bagchi, founder Mindtree, author and public servant, writes: “Reading Harpal, I think about my mother, relating every word of management, of Six Sigma Quality I learnt in Japan, to how she fed us, from supply chain management, to inventory control to cash flow to circular economy, not to leave aside customer satisfaction.”

“My favourite sentence from the book is ‘A perfect team is hard to achieve, and so is making good biryani. But it’s not impossible’”, says Puneet Chatwal, MD of Taj Hotels, in his testimonial. “This is such a profound takeaway – converting the impossible to possible through team work, determination and united purpose. A very engaging read indeed and a must for all in the field of hospitality”, he adds.

Sharing his thoughts in another testimonial, Dr. Chef Parvinder Singh Bali, Corporate Chef – The Oberoi Centre of Learning and Development, says: “Through practical examples, insightful anecdotes, and well researched strategies, you (Chef Harpal) have provided readers with comprehensive guide to how to comprehend styles of management through culinary processes. From menu development and ingredient sourcing to staff training and customer service, every aspect of food and management is meticulously covered.”

“I have learned to expect the unexpected from Chef Harpal Singh Sokhi”, shares Ajay Gupta, Managing Director, Capital Foods, which owns brands like Ching’s Secret and Smith Jones. “His culinary journey, as a chef and entrepreneur, has led him to make an unconventional connection between biryani and management. It is sure to whet the appetite of those looking to make their management style more masaaledar!”

Chef Harpal Singh Sokhi, who runs chains of restaurants in India and abroad, feels that hospitality sector should be looked at as a career of choice by the young, at par with engineer, management, medical, administrative services, and other seemingly more attractive career options. For this to happen, parents need to be supportive of their children and not continue to look down upon it.

Of course there is this initial struggle one has to go through, “and we have all gone through it”, but then the rewards of patience and focussed hard work are there for everyone to see, he emphasised. At the same he had a word of caution for the youth aspiring to enter the seemingly glamour world of hospitality, “it will be wrong to see only the success part of the story and not the years of struggle that went into building a success story”.

Sharing his own ultimate vision, which is shared by many other leaders in the culinary domain, of elevating Indian cuisine to the global stage through opening of fine dining restaurants, Chef Harpal, whose popular show ‘Turban Tadka’ holds the distinction of being among the highest-rated culinary shows in the history of television, maintained that Indian cuisine has “arrived”. The very fact that people around the world have started adopting several of the regional Indian cuisines in their kitchens is testimony to their increasing popularity, he added.

Speed Of Rescue Ops Saves Lives

0

How quickly rescuers can cut, bend and lift through metal doors, bars and sheets in case of a car crash, collapsed building or a mishapped passenger lift may prove decisive in saving lives of trapped victims. And so the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has equipped its Fire & Rescue Services with four kit sets (28 pieces) of such modern tools worth a whopping Rs 3 crore.

Mayor Anup Gupta on Tuesday handed over a set each of these seven such modern lightweight but powerful tools, including a hydraulic cutter, spreader, hydraulic power pack, battery operated strong arm and combi tool (performing both functions of cutting and spreading) and rescue ramset, also known as telescopic ramset, to the four divisions of the fire and rescue services department.

Photos By: Life In Chandigarh

Demonstrating the power of these handy tools, personnel of the department effortlessly sliced off a piece from a 35 mm high-strength enforcement TMT bar with a hydraulic cutter. The Mayor also tried his hand at a battery operated combi tool.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Anup Gupta said the department of fire and rescue services needs to keep pace with the modern requirements to successfully handle unfortunate happenings and mishaps and these tool kits have fulfilled one of the requirements. The corporation is committed to provide the department with whatever else is required to make it an effective and modern force, he added.

Visibly enthusiastic at receiving these rescue tool kits manufactured by international brand Lucas, which not many fire and rescue services in the country can boast of, officers of the department said they are also in the process of procuring a 61 metre high hydraulic platform-cum-Turn Table Ladder (HPTTL) for undertaking fire and rescue operations in high rise buildings across the Chandigarh tricity.

This will augment the two existing 42 metres high HPTTLs, which are in the process of being rejuvenated by shifting their superstructure onto new chasses. Five new water tenders (Type-B) and two special purpose foam tenders are also being added to the department’s fleet during the current financial year, they shared.

Recently, staff strength of the department was substantially increased by recruiting 240 firemen and 32 drivers. It also purchased 56 sets of breathing apparatuses for the personal safety and protection of fire fighters.

FibroScan Has Made Fatty Liver Detection Easy

0

Nearly 50% of the Indian population scanned for it will be detected with non alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), that’s how prevalent it is. Considered a silent killer, with no major symptoms, the disease, if left undetected, can over the years lead to severe fibrosis or cirrhosis and even liver cancer.

Luckily, with the advent of a simple ‘FibroScan’, which should be got done every 2-3 years, it is now possible to measure liver stiffness and fatty changes in the liver for taking early remedial action.

These views were shared in a public awareness meeting by Dr Yogesh K. Chawla, well known hepatologist and former Director of PGIMER Chandigarh, during a lecture to mark International NASH (Non Alcoholic Steatohepatitis or Fatty Liver) Day at CMC Hospital Chandigarh on Thursday. The meeting was organised by The Indian National Association for Study of the Liver.

Emphasising the importance of the liver and its complex functions, Dr Chawla said it keeps the body healthy by handling and regulating sugars, protein and fats and detoxifying drugs and toxins. Non alcoholic fatty liver disease if left unattended, over a period of time severely affects a person’s quality of life. It can lead to fatigue and tiredness and can increase the risk of diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease and even cancer. Depression also has a close association with this disease, he said.

Once detected, the management of the disease involves modifications in a patient’s lifestyle, including adding micronutrient-rich diet and coffee and avoiding fructose-containing sodas and juices. No alcohol, no smoking. Exercising regularly is a must.

Participants in the public awareness meeting

Recommended diet for patients of non alcoholic fatty liver disease includes apples and grapes, green leafy vegetables, beetroot and carrot, green tea and garlic, citrus fruits, cabbage and turmeric.

Studies have shown that yoga asanas like kapal bhati, pranayama, matsyasana (fish pose), gomukhasana (cow face pose) and paripurna navasana (boat pose) are of great help, Dr Chawla added.

Rehabilitation Is Key To Spinal Cord Injury Outcomes

0

Responding to the insufficient facilities for integrated treatment and rehabilitation of spinal cord injuries patients in the region, well known multi-speciality hospital Trinity Hospital & Medical Research Institute, tucked away in the bylanes of Zirakpur town, near Chandigarh, has announced the launch of its fully equipped Spine & Neuro Rehabilitation Centre.

Making the announcement in a news conference in Chandigarh on Tuesday, a three-member team of doctors and therapist from the hospital, led by its chairman and noted orthopaedic surgeon of the region Dr Mohinder Kaushal, claimed that this level of centre for spine and neuro rehabilitation is the first in the region North of Delhi NCR in the private sector.

Photos By : Life In Chandigarh & Trinity Hospital

Of course, there is a Punjab government run Regional Spinal Injuries Centre in Mohali, which is basically a social service activity under the state Department of Social Security Women & Child Development. It provides specialised treatment and rehabilitation at subsidised rates to patients with spinal cord injuries from the region and beyond.

Dr Kaushal shared that apart from highly skilled doctors and nurses, the centre has world class infrastructure and well trained physiotherapy team specialised in spinal cord and neuro rehabilitation, a dedicated ICU level ward and 24X7 emergency services.

This writer later also visited the hospital to check out the facilities as claimed in the press conference and returned impressed.

Dr Kaushal, who specialises in arthroscopic knee and endoscopic spine surgery, told your own news website LifeInChandigarh.com that “Spinal cord injuries are known for their profound impact, which can lead up to significantly impaired social, economic, psychological and physical consequences if proper resuscitation, surgical stabilisation and spine and neuro rehabilitation of a patient over a period of time is not done as part of an integrated treatment and rehabilitation protocol.”

He explains that surgery for treatment of spinal cord injuries is just about 30% of the work. The eventual outcomes of the surgery are dependent on a comprehensive rehabilitation programme customised for each individual patient, which can take anything between 9 to 12 months, or even longer.

Dr Kaushal, who is regularly invited to national and international scientific meetings as faculty/guest speaker and conducts CMEs (continuing medical education programmes) and training courses in arthroscopic and endoscopic spine surgical techniques for surgeons in India and abroad, informs that road accidents, falls, sports injuries and assaults have been identified as some of the common causes of spinal cord injuries.

Recognising the gravity of such injuries the World Health Organisation (WHO) has acknowledged it as a major musculoskeletal concern burdening individuals and society as a whole, he adds.

Quoting World Health Organisation (WHO) data, Dr Kaushal says that worldwide every year between 2,50,000 and 5,00,000 suffer a spinal cord injury. While in the advanced countries a vast majority of the cases are a result of road accidents, in India, because of the socio-economic conditions, most of such injuries are caused by fall from heights, especially among construction workers.

He laments that facilities for treatment and rehabilitation of spinal cord injuries in the country are grossly insufficient and need to be urgently bolstered.

Dr Mukul Kaushal, Senior Consultant, Dept of Orthopaedics at Trinity Hospital and Medical Research Institute, adds: “Through our comprehensive rehabilitation programs, we address the specific needs and severity of each patient’s condition.”

Our rehabilitation services include tailored exercise regimens to enhance movement and prevent weakness, social and behavioural skills retraining, cognitive improvement activities, pain and stress management, assistance with activities of daily living, mobility enhancement, muscle control and balance improvement, vocational and nutritional training, and much more.”

Senior Spine Rehab Physiotherapist at the hospital Amrita Ghosh explains that “The goal of neurological rehab is to help you return to the highest level of function and independence possible with the help of a structured conditioning programme. There is also a mental and emotional component of it which improves overall quality of life – physically, emotionally and socially.”

The hospital also houses a busy Ortho & Sports Rehabilitation Centre.

Indias™ Swing State™ Positioning Strong Deterrent Against China

0

By steadfastly not aligning with any military bloc and treading a middle path in geopolitics, India has been successfully positioning itself as global ‘swing state’, which will prove a strong deterrent against any potential serious India-centric military adventurism by China.

These views were expressed by noted defence and security analyst Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain (retd.) in an interview with your own news website LifeInChandigarh.com on the sidelines a national seminar on ‘Jammu & Kashmir And Ladakh: Developmental Dynamics And Future Trajectories’ organised at Panjab University Chandigarh on Thursday.

Lt. Gen. Syed Ata Hasnain (Retd.)

Interacting with this writer on wide-ranging issues particularly emerging out of the current massive military standoff with China in Easte Ladakh, and also other friction points along the Line of Actual Control (LoAC), Gen Hasnain said he did not believe that China’s intent in amassing a massive force on the border in Easte Ladakh was to wage a war.

“With a force of 50,000, China could not have hoped to capture even an inch of Indian territory by going to war. A war effort would entail committing a much larger military, and firepower, to the war theatre,” observed the Gen., who has had an illustrious military career having commanded a brigade, a division and a corps in Kashmir, besides a strike corps, and later serving as Military Secretary to the Indian Army.

Attributing the Communist neighbour’s aggressive posture to its attempt at achieving a set of strategic goals, Gen. Hasnain said the foremost among them is to try and embarrass India, and dent its growing strategic confidence. “China perceives us an emerging strong competitor to its global ambitions, given our growing influence in the Global North and our role in championing the cause of the Global South,” he added.

It is also an attempt to so engage and confine India’s military resources to its land frontiers that its focus on further strengthening its maritime power gets diverted. China finds itself weak and vulnerable in the maritime domain since most of its critical trade especially energy supplies pass through the Indo-Pacific. Expansion of India’s maritime power is this region is seen to be detrimental to China’s strategic interests, Gen. Hasnain noted.

The defence analyst is of the view that in his over ambition to achieve well before the deadline the Chinese Communist Party’s avowed goal, spelt out at its 19th Congress, of making China the most powerful nation in the world by 2049, the one hundredth year of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping is aggressively attempting to settle China’s territorial disputes.

The Chinese leader sees the forced integration of Taiwan into mainland China and arm twisting a favourable settlement of the complex border dispute with a strong India as stepping stones to his glory, hence the military posture at the LoAC is also being used to pressurise India into a settlement, he said.

Gen. Hasnain opined that India on the other hand, known for its neutrality and autonomy of decision making on international issues, has played its cards well to generate international opinion and support in its favour in the current border standoff with China.

By steadfastly staying clear of military blocs and following the principles of multilateralism (as member of several global groupings like G20, SCO, Brics, Quad, I2U2, and more, none of which are purely military oriented), India has been able to cement its ties with the West without denting its traditional trusted cultural, trade and military ties with Russia.

“In doing so we are successfully positioning ourselves as a ‘swing state’ on the world stage, charting our own course on an issue-by-issue basis and exerting a strong influence on the future of the global balance of power, which bodes well for the country’s future,” Gen. Hasnain concluded.

Time To Win Hearts, Hold Elections, Develop Mode New Capital

0

A national seminar focussed on developmental dynamics and future trajectories of the two sensitive northe most union territories, and a vast majority of speakers from military background, ‘baat kuchh jami nahin janab’!

But that’s how it was at a National Seminar on “J&K And Ladakh: Developmental Dynamics and Future Trajectories” held in hybrid mode (mix of offline and online) at the ICSSR Complex in Panjab University Chandigarh on Thursday.

Just two of the key speakers, out of a dozen odd, were from non-military backgrounds – senior corporate executive and writer Ashish Kaul, and academician, author and former Indian diplomat Phunchok Stobdan – both of whom joined via the online mode, with its inherent signal distortions and disruptions. No Politician, no administrator, no one from industry and none from grassroots level developmental organisations!

That apart, the seminar brought out some interesting thoughts and ideas for the policy makers and planners to ponder while charting out a new course for the two union territories, created by bifurcating the erstwhile state of Jammu And Kashmir after the abrogation in 2019 of Articles 370 and 35(A) of the Constitution which provided it a special status.

While there was unanimity among the speakers that Jammu and Kashmir was slowly but surely drifting towards a semblance of normalcy after the special status to the erstwhile state was dropped, there was also a word of caution for the government and the administration that true normalcy in every sense of the term could only be achieved by winning the hearts and minds of an aggrieved local population.

Observing that there are no two opinions regarding restoration of power to the peoples’ elected representatives, most speakers in the seminar felt that the process of elections should be held in a manner as not to repeat the mistakes of the past and allow the region to slip back into anarchy.

Delivering his keynote address, noted defence and security analyst and former corps commander and military secretary of Indian Army, Lt. Gen. Syed Ata Hasnain (Retd.) highlighted the need for a comprehensive people-centric approach, addressing the political, social, economic and especially psychological concerns of the local populations in both Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

He particularly called for the country to adopt and implement a professional digital strategy by taking on board communications experts to effectively counter the anti-India fake/false cross border propaganda and narratives.

In a technical session, chaired by former Weste Army commander Lt. Gen KJ Singh (Retd.), Navy Captain Alok Bansal (Retd.), Director of India Foundation, espoused a radical approach, calling for a mode new capital for Jammu and Kashmir by doing away with the legacy of separate summer and winter capitals.

He also emphasised the need for deconcentration of economic activities and development from traditional centres like Srinagar, Jammu and Leh and to disperse such activities to lesser known but viable centres across the regions by developing them as counter magnets.

These could be Kishtwar and Bhaderwah in Jammu Division, Poonch and Rajouri along the Mughal Road and some areas along the upcoming railway lines, Likewise, in Ladakh some centres other than Leh need to be developed so that the fruits of development and progress get distributed evenly, he added.

Stressing on the importance of retaining ‘occupied territories’ like Gilgit Baltistan in Pakistan and Aksai-Chin in China in our mental space, he said the general populace needs to be educated about these territories to sharpen the country’s focus on efforts aimed at integrating them back with India. He also suggested that these occupied territories be included in the delimitation exercise in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh so that the populations of these territories are represented in the legislature on our side.

Expressing the need to now focus on the larger picture of restoring the famed age old Kashmiri culture of peace, harmony, brotherhood and scholarly pursuits, Maj. Gen. Raj Mehta (Retd.) said “we have to carry along the local population which still feels aggrieved. We have to win their hearts and minds through our sensitive approach and actions.”

Lt. Gen. DS Hooda (Retd.) (Centre)

In his plenary address, former Northe Army commander Lt. Gen. DS Hooda (Retd.) stressed that lasting solutions cannot be found without addressing the fundamental issues because of which this spectre of violence has been continuing in Jammu & Kashmir for more than three long decades.

Observing that if there is an external dimension to the problem, which has and is being tackled effective, Lt. Gen. Hooda pointed out that we cannot forget that there is an internal dimension too of the festering angst among the local population.

Claiming that 70% of the local population is below 35 years of age, he emphasised that this section has lived its entire life in an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty. This population has to be won over with sensitivity. “We have to now move beyond conflict management to conflict resolution,” he added.

In another plenary address, noted academician, diplomat, author and foreign policy expert Phunchok Stobdan made a strong pitch for the central government and the local administration of the Union territory of Ladakh to first understand the history and ancient culture of this so far largely neglected territory to be able to focus on its holistic and sustainable development.

He informed that out of the 59,000-plus sq kms area of the present day Ladakh, only about 19,000 sq kms is inhabited and 60% of it (about 25,000 sq kms) is not even being governed and “being left to the Gods” with none of the 37 odd departments of the government having any sort of presence there.

The former Indian ambassador to the central Asian country of Kyrgyzstan said though whatever area of Ladakh is now part of India is barren land (large swaths of its wool and mineral rich lands being in the illegal occupation of Pakistan and China), it holds huge potential for harnessing its river water resources which are currently freely flowing into Pakistan. Its vast potential for generating solar and wind power is also largely going untapped.

Processing of horticulture produce, especially Seabuckthorn, a wonder berry growing in the wild in parts of Ladakh with vast usage in the beverages, medicines and cosmetics industries and more, can also help transform the economy of the union territory, he said.

In a pointed remark on the long border standoff with China with deployment of large armies from both sides in Easte Ladakh, he said China is smartly reaping economic gains from its deployment by furthering its developmental agenda, including the controversial Belt and Road (or One Belt One Road) Initiative being opposed by us. India, on the other hand, in the absence of a coherent politico-military strategy, has been left bleeding its taxpayers’ money with a matching defensive posture.

The national seminar was jointly organised by the Department of Defence and National Security Studies and Institute of Social Science Education & Research, Panjab University Chandigarh in collaboration with ‘Gyan Setu’ Think Tank and Jammu Kashmir Study Centre.

Indian Council of Social Sciences Research (North West Regional Centre) Chandigarh sponsored the event, which was attended by faculty, research scholars and students of the University. Serving and retired military officials were also in attendance.

Bonanza For Riders; Level Playing Field For Drivers

0

Finding the current cab aggregators’ working model as skewed and heavily weighed against taxi drivers and riders, a former auto/cab driver and operator has come out with a new chain networking business model which promises a win-win situation and attractive lifelong incentive income for drivers and riders alike.

So, here comes cab hailing service ‘Peru Cabs’, launched in the tricity on Thursday by co-founder couple MK Perumal and Rupali with 1,000 taxis already aggregated.

It comes with a host of attractive offers, including guaranteed cash back on every ride on pay per km basis starting @Rs 10/km with no unethical ‘surge pricing’, monthly gift of free rides, loyalty bonus, and opportunity for lifelong incentive income through chain networking.

Perumal, who experienced the pain and agony of his highly successful cab rental service in Nagpur crumbling in 2016 following the country allowing the entry of MNC cab aggregators in 2014, and Rupali say “We have been striving all these years to create a level playing field for cab drivers – to start something which fellow cab drivers can trust as their own.”

Peru Cabs Team In Chandigarh

The unique selling proposition (USP) of Peru Cabs app, explains Perumal (from whose name ‘Peru’ has emerged) is that “it treats both cab owners and customers (riders) as ‘consultants’ just as consultants in any other business. On becoming a consultant, there are 12 different streams from which a lifelong income can be earned. The greater the chain formed through a system of referrals, the greater the lifelong incentive income a consultant gets.”

(For more details https://consultant.perucabs.com)

What is in it for riders: Apart from no surge pricing, for frequent or daily riders there is assured cash back at the end of every month, plus a gift in terms of free rides, and in addition option of becoming Peru Cabs consultant to reap lifelong incentive income.

For drivers: Instant cash business, refer & earn, build your team, 12 streams of lifelong incentive income (including ride profit of up to 70%, performance bonus, taxi EMI bonus, maintenance fund & more), transferrable business, weekly business training, skill development facility for families.

Why Chandigarh first? Says Perumal: Our family moved to Chandigarh in 2022 to closely monitor the development of the Peru Cabs app, done by a Chandigarh based IT company, and since then we have made the city our home.

He claims that 1,000 taxis have already been aggregated on the Peru Cabs app in the Chandigarh tricity. “This number is sought to be quickly raised to 5000 as our driver and customer centric business model is being lapped up fast."

Autos will also be soon added on the app, which is estimated to connect approximately 45,000 drivers and 4.5 million customers in Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana.

Perumal shares that there is a potential for approximately one million trips per week in the region and as per a rough estimate a payment of Rs 8.4 crores is there to be collected in this cab booking app, considering average single trip to be Rs. 100.

He expresses confidence that Peru Cabs will be able to go pan India in 6 months to one year timeline, and then go global, why not!
