Keeping in view the difficulties faced by people in ordering, and getting delivery of groceries and other essentials at their doorstep from retailers amid Covid-19 related curfew, the Punjab government has expanded its Cova App to include this service as well.
The App was originally launched to provide real time status of Covid-19 patients, and also had features like donation to CM Relief Fund, checking on symptoms of Corona Virus, generating curfew passes, connecting to a doctor, becoming a volunteer, list of Corona hospitals, reporting mass gatherings, government orders, etc.
A Punjab government press release said that the expanded feature in the Cova App will enable more effective delivery of groceries by local vendors at the doorstep of people across the state amid widespread complaints of delivery contact numbers being found unavailable, busy on invalid by citizens. Vendors were also finding it difficult to deal with the high volume of incoming orders and delivering to the right addresses.
The App, available on Android Play Store and iOS AppStore, will now facilitate delivery of state notified grocery and essential goods through local vendors.
The new module will enable vendors to register themselves as suppliers and enlist their delivery executives for curfew passes. It will also empower the district administrations to approve/reject any vendor, as also act as a monitoring authority on citizens’ complaints of overpricing or adulteration.
A citizen just needs to select his/her location, and the App will automatically populate the nearby registered vendors. An order can be placed on the App itself and payment made post delivery of the items.
The interactive citizen mobile application was launched by the Punjab government through its innovative Digital Punjab Team. The new feature has been built into the App with support from Uengage Services Pvt Ltd, which has worked with the government team on this initiative without levying any charges, according to Vini Mahajan, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Government Reforms and Public Grievances.

Meanwhile, D-MART, which, collectively with the Dhillon Group as a whole, has donated Rs 5.05 crore to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fun – Covid-19, has also started home delivery of essential goods via its newly launched Mobile App (DMart Ready) to mitigate the hardships faced by citizens in view of the curfew restrictions.
However, a visit to the App revealed that individual orders have been suspended till further orders because of the backlog of orders and shortage of available staff in view of the movement restrictions. Currently slots are available for group orders exceeded Rs 15,000 in select areas only.
