Sharing this during a media interaction following a meeting with the CII Northern Region membership at its headquarters in Sector 31 on Monday, Deepak Jain, Chairman, CII Northern Region who is also Chairman & Managing Director of Lumax Industries Ltd, said among other action points of this engagement with the state governments will be policy advocacy on a host of issues like onboarding the National Single Window System and the ‘Gati Shakti’ portal.

Highlighting the key recommendations by CII Northern Region for the growth and development of the industry in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh, Deepak Jain said there needs to be greater focus on creating the right infrastructure and logistics, and provide close government support to transform the region into the country’s industrial hub.

While emphasizing that states like Punjab and Haryana have a high potential for exports from sectors like textile, auto components, bi-cycle, food processing, etc., he reiterated CII’s long-standing commitment towards the growth and development of the industry and the need for a collective effort to achieve it.

CII Northern Region is readying itself to initiate an Incubation Programme for handholding budding entrepreneurs and also help them in networking to find potential investors. It is also poised to work towards bridging the rural-urban disconnect and will work extensively on bringing in diversity at workplaces in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, he added.

“This year, CII will focus on internalizing the tenets of sustainability and climate action and accelerating its globalisation journey for leadership in a changing world. This will be undertaken through an inclusive model of growth that builds trust between all stakeholders, including government, industry, society, consumers, investors and the external community,” he shared.

Giving the example of CII’s Crop Residue Management project, which he claimed is running effectively in 12 districts of Punjab and Haryana, covering 300 villages and 3 lakh acres of farmland and 50,000 farmers, he said it has created a successful model which can be scaled up with the involvement of all stakeholders to tackle the annually recurring issue of stubble-burning head on.

Deepak Jain also announced the CII National Theme for the year, ‘Towards a Competitive and Sustainable India@100: Growth, Livelihood, Globalisation, Building Trust,’ which aims to amalgamate CII’s efforts in the country towards scaling the competitiveness ladder to drive growth.

Under the aegis of the theme, CII Northern Region’s five main priorities and focus areas for the year include Export-led Growth & Competitiveness, Innovation & Digital Transformation, Sustainability and Clean Tech, Startups & Entrepreneurship, and Diversity & Inclusion.

Earlier, Deepak Jain, accompanied by Madhavkrishna Singhania, Deputy Chairman, CII Northern Region who is also Deputy MD & CEO, JK Cement Ltd and Mr Prashant A N, Regional Director, CII Northern Region, met with the CII Northern Region membership to discuss and carry forward the various initiatives of CII.

Among the business leaders from the region present were Dr PJ Singh, Chairman, CII Punjab who is also Managing Director, Tynor Orthotics Pvt Ltd; Mr Vivek Gupta, Chairman, CII Chandigarh who is also Managing Director, NEC Packaging Ltd; Mr Anurag Gupta, Vice-Chairman, CII Chandigarh who is also Managing Director, Usha Yarns Ltd; Mr Gagan Kapoor, Chairman, CII Himachal Pradesh who is also Proprietor, Pulkit Industries; and Mr Navesh Narula, Vice-Chairman, CII Himachal Pradesh who is also Director, Tesna Tech Pvt Ltd.
